I just started and I'm supposed to race my brother to the top of a church. I can climb boxes, but I can't figure out how to climb buildings. There is no instruction in the book that came with the game, and I've watched people do it in some walkthrough videos, but when I get to a wall, my character just stands there and no button I push makes him climb.

It's near the center of the city, and there is no way to reach the top of this building because the knob I need to reach to climb higher is way too high up.
Forli South - Enter the town and climb the tower at the south end. Abbazia Di San Mercuriale - East side of the church is climbable, then get to the tower. Climb up the pegs to get to the west face that is a clear shot to the top, then shimmy over to the south face to climb up to the cross to sync. The leap is hard, just aim NW and hope you hit it.

Climb until you reach the ledge with a wooden post sticking out above from it. In some of the 2/5 difficulty ones, the guy is actually indoors and hiding, and in some of the 4/5 ones he's just walking around outside like a moron waiting to get shot. Other than that, I think the Borgia influence/towers concept is pretty cool.

In this game, you need more than just knives to win, Assassin's Creed 2 has a economic system with merchants, you need to purchase items off merchants and in turn, you need florins, which is the currency, to pay for it.
