THE MOSQUITO on DISPLAY at the MUSEUM. Mosquito RS700 was built in 1946 and converted to a PR.35 model. It is under restoration by the Calgary Mosquito Society in association with the museum. Its Canadian history began when it was operated by Spartan Air Services in the 1950’s to take photographs to map areas of Canada, including the Arctic.
The Beaver is slab sided and sensitive to wind on the surface, but an experienced pilot can handle the airplane easily. For takeoff, the throttle pushes manifold pressure to 36.5 inches at 2,300 rpm. An idling R-985 rumbles a pleasant note, but at takeoff power, it emits a deafening roar.

The de Havilland design and production staff made many contributions that were, apparently, outside their field of expertise. In October 1941, C.T. Wilkins, suggested that if the normal 500lb (227kg) British bombs were fitted with shorter or retractable fins then the Mosquito could carry four of them in the bomb bay.
